Microsoft Bans DeepSeek App Over Data and Propaganda Concerns
Microsoft has prohibited its employees from using the Chinese AI platform DeepSeek, citing data security risks and potential propaganda influence. Vice Chairman Brad Smith disclosed the ban during a Senate hearing, emphasizing concerns over data storage in China and compliance with local laws.
DeepSeek’s privacy policy confirms that user data resides on servers within China, subjecting it to domestic regulations, including intelligence-sharing mandates. Microsoft has also excluded the app from its store, reflecting heightened scrutiny of Chinese tech amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
